This $31 million East Campus Complex renovation is a part of the Long-Range Plan for University Housing and Campus Dining. East Campus Residence complex is comprised of Hewett Residence Tower, Manchester Residence Tower, and Vrooman Center. It is located in the northeast district of campus. This complex was constructed in 1966 and houses over 1,600 students.
This project will renovate the aging infrastructure of the traditional residence hall, upgrade the exterior building envelope and the outdated building systems including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, upgrade the fire detection system, install a sprinkler system, and reconfigure some of the living spaces. When Vrooman Center reopens in spring of 2009, it will be used as a welcoming area for the complex. There will be offices, classrooms, and meeting rooms on the upper level. The lower level will house University Center for Learning Assistance (UCLA) and Minority Student Academic Center (MSAC), and Enrollment Management Academic Services (EMAS) support programs.
