Recycling at Illinois State
Illinois State uses the single stream system. In stead of sorting paper, plastic, glass, and cans, all these materials can go directly into one recycling container.

Put in Recycling:
- Metal (Steel and Aluminum Containers)
- Plastic Containers (Bottles, Tubes, and Jugs)
- Glass (Bottles and Jars)
- Paper (Office Paper, Paper Envelopes, Books, Journals, Magazines, and Newspaper)
- Cardboard (If it is too big, set it next to recycling container) put these in the recycling. Below is the list of the items that contaminate recycling containers.

- Food Waste and Liquid
- Coffee and Paper Cups
- Takeout Containers
- Frozen Food Boxes
- Styrofoam/Rigid Plastic#6 (e.g., plastic utensils and plastic SOLO cups)
- Plastic Bags (e.g., produce bags, ziploc bags, bread bags, cereal bags, case wrap, etc.)
- Packaging Materials (e.g., bubble wrap, packing peanuts, plastic air pillows, etc.)

- E-Waste Collection:
- The e-waste recycling program encourages the Illinois State community to properly recycle small electronic items. If the item is leaking or too large to fit into the container, please contact University Recycling at (309) 438-SAVE (7283) to schedule a special pickup. Only the following items are accepted at e-waste collection stations on campus.
- Used Batteries
- Chargers, Adapters and Electrical Cords
- Toner Cartridges and Inkjets
- CDs
- E-waste recycling stations can be found in several locations across campus.

- Confidential Recycling:
- Departments and offices across campus can safely recycle grade reports, personal information, and correspondence. Weekly, materials are securely collected (locked totes), shredded, and recycled. Contact University Recycling at (309) 438-SAVE (7283) by Monday for the Wednesday pickup.
