National Pan-Hellenic Council Plaza

The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) Plaza is being built to educate the campus community and visitors to Illinois State about the importance and impact of the nine historically Black fraternities and sororities, known as the Divine Nine. The NPHC is the national Greek organization that governs those groups. The plaza will have nine pillars (one for each organization), bench seating, landscaping, lighting, and a donor wall. The Division of Student Affairs is raising $300,000 to pay for construction costs, which are yet to be determined.

Quote from vice president Dr. Levester Johnson

This is a very special project, both for our current Redbirds and our many alumni. Not only is it a great cross-campus collaboration, but as a member of a Divine Nine organization myself, I know how meaningful and personal this space will be for so many.

Dr. Levester Johnson, vice president for Student Affairs
